Nostalgia: Sponsored walk helps 50 charities

The Cleckheaton and District Rotary Club organised this sponsored walk along the Spen Way Heritage Trail in 1984, raising £2,700.

With each of the 250 walkers choosing their own cause for the hike, at least 50 charities benefitted.
Those aged eight to 72 took to the 21-mile route, with one man, John Dunford, deciding to run it in aid of Spen Valley Historical Society. He finished in three hours and 22 minutes.
The People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals received £10 after Compo, a dog belonging to John Chambers, joined in with the walk. Do any of these people look familiar? If so, get in touch.
