Now fancy hat!

READER Eileen Sheard was thrilled to see her photographs appearing in Looking Back in July.

Eileen, nee Cooper, had loaned us two pictures of Battye Street School pupils in the 1930s, and a couple of her former classmates contacted us to say they were on the photos.

Her daughter, Kathy Cass, has now sent us a few more from when her mum was a mere babe in arms to when she was newly married.

“Mum was the youngest of five and the first picture is of her when she was a baby,” she said.

“She is on her sister Kathleen’s knee and bawling by the looks of it!

On the left is her sister, Edna, and to the right her brother, Stanley. The photo was taken in the spring of 1925 outside the family home in Roebuck Street, Heckmondwike.

“The second photo is of Edna, my mum Eileen and Stanley, again taken in Roebuck Street. I look at it and think ‘Where did you get those hats?’

“Finally the last one is of my mum and late father, Derrick Sheard, taken with Dewsbury Market in the background and probably around 1949/50.”
