Old Bank send Oakwell crashing to cup defeat

The Heavy Woollen Sunday League Division Two leaders matched their Premier opponents all the way as the sides were locked 4-4 after extra time.

Old Bank held their nerve to win the penalty shoot out 3-1 and book a quarter-final clash with holders St John Fisher on January 17.

Fisher disposed of fellow top flight side Millbridge WMC 4-1 last Sunday.

The Premier Division leaders were due to play White Eagles in their delayed West Riding County Cup tie this Sunday but the clash has now been put back to January 3.

Birkenshaw booked their place in the Brook Butler Cup quarter-final with a 5-1 win over Rose Of York and they travel to Batley Celtics in the last eight after they sprang a surprise to beat Birstall St Patricks 3-1.

Clifton Rangers won 4-0 away to Overthorpe Sports, while the third round ties involving Navigation v Woodkirk Valley, AFC Chickenley v Mirfield Town and Savile Arms v Hartshead were all postponed and have been re-arranged for January 17.

Due to a combination of poor weather and district cup games only three matches took place in the Heavy Woollen Sunday League last weekend.

Mount Pleasant climbed to sixth place in the Premier Division after Faizal Adam and Abdullah Mayat both netted in a 2-2 draw against fourth placed Woodman Batley Carr.

The only other games played both took place in the Championship where St John Fisher Reserves moved up to fourth place with a 5-4 win at Town Rangers thanks to a Dominic Simpson hat-trick and a brace from Charlie Frear.

Kadean Fogarthy hit a hat-trick for Deighton WMC as they won 6-1 against bottom side Ravenswharfe to climb to sixth place.

Dale Joy, Darren Williams and Dale Brook bagged the others, with Corey Joseph replying for Ravenswharfe.
