Class-leading pace for Inception Racing at Monza GT World Challenge

The Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe is among the toughest of challenges in motor sport and the Yorkshire-based Inception Racing rode the highs and lows of competing at this – the very highest level - as the 2021 Championship got underway at Monza, Italy.

Ultimately, the race was a short one for Brendan Iribe in the #70 Optimum Motorsport run McLaren 720S GT3, following contact with another car at the second chicane on the first lap. Having put in such a tremendous effort to claim the series debut Pro-Am pole position with teammate Ollie Millroy, the early retirement was especially cruel.

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the race weekend was therefore the Sunday morning qualifying sessions; each a 15-minute rapid-fire affair with the average time determining the grid position. Both drivers were exceptional, claiming the pole by 0.014s.

“That was the best I’ve ever seen Brendan drive,” Ollie stated at the time. “A fantastic effort by him and the team.”

Indeed it was, with Brendan lapping the high-speed circuit within half a tenth of his more experienced teammate; while their combined pace, to lead the 13-car class, was a remarkable achievement.

With the race curtailed following the contact and subsequent front right upright damage, the team, while disappointed not to complete the three-hour event, can certainly take plenty of positives from the weekend.

With confidence high, and speed abundant, Inception Racing will return to the series next time out at Circuit Paul Ricard from May 28-30.
