Pack Horse topple Taylor to boost title ambitions

Leaders FC Pack Horse beat Taylor 3-0 in the clash of the top two sides in Heavy Woollen Sunday League Division One.

Marcus Newby (two) and Danny Lightowler struck as Pack Horse lead the rest by four points.

Dewsbury Rangers’ rich vein of form continued as they beat Hightown 6-0 to move up to fourth place. Jack Phethean and Ben Mitchell both hit doubles for Rangers, who also had Jamie Beever and Danny Laidlaw on the scoresheet.

Elliot Brooke bagged four goals as Overthorpe Town won 5-1 at home to Birkenshaw Reserves. Lee Kaye completed Overthorpe’s tally, with Marc Trapps replying for Birkenshaw.

St Ignatius won the basement battle, overcoming Bay Horse East Ardsley in a 4-1 win. Tim Blackburn (two), Christian Rushforth and Andy Hill netted for the Wakefield side, with Matthew Bestington hitting Bay Horse’s consolation. The result consigns both sides to the drop.

In Division Two, Barr Street continued their pursuit of leaders Railway East Ardsley with a 4-2 win over St John Fisher Reserves. Dwayne Wilkinson (two), Luke Sausby and Kadean Fogarty all netted as Barr Street moved to within 17 points of the leaders, with six games in hand. Pete Townend and Dominic Simpson struck for Fisher.

In second place, but with no hope of catching the leaders, lie Northorpe United who won 3-2 at Ravenswharfe. Kyle Douglas led the way with a brace, while James Nicholls also scored.Steve Smith and Lee Poskitt replied for Ravenswharfe.

Alistair Drew hit a double as Rising Sun won 5-0 against Thornhill. Danny Gannon, Steve McGowan and Ryan Russell scored the others as Rising Sun inch to safety.
