Mirfield Parish Cavaliers slipped to a fifth straight defeat in the Drakes Huddersfield Premiership last Saturday as they went down by 136 runs to fellow strugglers Cawthorne.

Victory was enough to lift Cawthorne off the foot of the table and they jumped above Parish into 11th place.

Golcar now prop up the table on 22 points with Shelley (23) and second-bottom Parish (24) just a point above the relegation zone and Cawthorne one place and one point better off as three points separate the bottom four clubs.

Cawthorne had made changes in the build up to the game with Liam Wiles taking over as captain after Chris Walmsley returned to former club Penistone, while they have brought in Northamptonshire bowler Nathan Buck in an effort to finish outside the bottom two.

Nottinghamshire youngster Jacob Deavin-Baker led the Cawthorne innings with 102 not out, which included 10 fours and six sixes.

He was supported by opener Ben Simpson (50) and new captain Liam Wiles (58) as Cawthorne racked up 328-7, with Tom Fretwell and Aiden Hawkesworth picking up a couple of wickets apiece for Parish.

David Bolt hit 29 at the top of the Cavaliers reply, while Daniel Broadbent (56) made a defiant half century and there was also a useful contribution from Mohammad Suleman (32) but they were bowled out for 192 in 41 overs as opening bowler Luke Robinson (6-60) cut through their ranks.

Moorlands slipped to eighth in the table after they suffered en eight-wicket defeat to Thongsbridge.

Moorlands had already beaten their opponents twice this season but were unable to make it a hat-trick.

Michael Rounding (64) and Eddie Walmsley (66) both struck half-centuries, while there was support from Nathan Rabnott (38) as Moorlands posted 243-6.

Opener Ben Raven-Hill guided Thongsbridge to victory as he struck his second century of the season.

He produced a controlled 137-ball innings to make 118 not out, which included 17 fours.

Overseas player Haydn Slodecki struck four fours and three sixes on his way to 60 as he shared a 121-run stand with Raven-Hill.

Jack Cassidy (39no) then shared an unbroken 73-run third-wicket stand with the opener as Thongsbridge cantered home on 247-2 with 13 balls to spare.

Mirfield suffered an agonising one-wicket defeat to Thurstonland in the Conference.

Captain Adam Goldthorpe led the way with 62 when Mirfield batted first but they were bowled out for 154 in 39.3 overs as Jack England (5-26) and opener Lee Booth (4-33) did the damage.

Although Kaleel Ahmed struck 33 in Thurstonland’s reply, wickets fell at regular intervals as Naseer Saudager threatened to win it with an impressive haul of 7-21 from 15 overs.

Number nine batsman Patrick O’Leary struck a crucial 26 not out as Thurstonland edged to victory.
