Pennine League takes a break

THE Pennine League looks set to take a two week break for Christmas and new year, with the majority of sides returning to action on Saturday January 5.

The league asked clubs who wished to play a fixture this coming Saturday to get in touch and with several games falling victim to the weather last week a couple of clubs may decide to fit in an extra game to ease fixture congestion later in the season.

Supporters wanting to try and catch a match this weekend are advised to visit the Pennine League website to see which matches are due to take place.

There will be no league games on Saturday December 29 but there will be a festive fix of amateur rugby when Sharlston Rovers take on Nevison Leap in the BARLA Yorkshire Cup final at Featherstone Rovers.

Dewsbury Celtic take on West Hull in the Under-18s final as a curtain raiser to the main game, kick off noon.

Batley Boys, whose game at Newsome last week was one falling victim to the weather, currently lie sixth in Division One but with several games in hand on all the sides above them.

With 14 league games still to play, the Boys will be looking to make up ground and challenge for promotion when they resume.
