Disappointment in cups as Celtic teams suffer defeats

Dewsbury Celtic Under-14s bowed out of two cups in the same week.

The went down 50- 6 against a strong, powerful Batley Boys side last Tuesday.

Celtic tackled well and never gave up with James Oldroyd scoring their try and picking up MoM, with Joe Mitchell taking opposition MoM.

Celtic started well away to Milford with strong runs from Mitchell and Ferry setting a platform for Ethan Parkinson to score a fine try.

That proved Celtic’s only points as they went down 36- 4 to a well drilled Milford side with Joe Mitchell scooping MoM and opposition MoM.

Dewsbury Celtic Under-16s suffered a 36-30 defeat at home to Newsome Panthers in the Yorkshire Junior League Continuation Cup final last Sunday.

The visitors arrived top of the league with a 100 per cent record and scored two early converted tries after poor Celtic defence.

Lewis Teale finished off Celtic’s first full attacking set with a try only for the Panthers to march back upfield and grab a third converted try to lead 18-4.

Celtic advanced up the right wing and George Hirst completing the move with a deserved try in the corner.

Newsome added a penalty and converted try late in the first half to lead 24-8.

Celtic began the second half well as Ethan O’Hanlonbarged over from close range and Charlie Heaton converted.

Celtic went back on attack as George Bussey drove them upfield and Joel Russell scored in the corner.

Newsome responded with two converted tries to lead 36-18 but Jack Kelly nipped over from acting half back before full-back Jacob Feiweles crossed.

Heaton added both goals to reduce the lead to six points.

Celtic tried desperately to break through and Jacob Carr barged over the line but was held up and bundled into touch in goal as the Panthers held on for victory.

Prop George Bussey’s earned praise from the Newsome coach, while Celtic counterpart Paul Heaton singled out Jacob Sheard, Liam Metcalf and MoM Ethan O’Hanlon.

Celtic Under-16s host Hunslet Warriors in the league on Sunday.
