Improvement needed for big test at Rovers

The Rams have won three of their opening four matches in the Kingstone Press Championship but face arguably their toughest game to date as they head to the Bigfellas Stadium.

Morrison said: “For us not to play our best, but to get three wins out of four, we’re doing alright. But we need to improve against the teams at the top of the table.

“We’ve got to work on a few things. We’re still gelling because we’ve got new half-backs and it’s always going to take time before you click.”

Dewsbury’s only defeat so far saw them go down 38-16 at Oldham a fortnight ago but they bounced back to overcome Whitehaven 20-4 last week and maintain the pressure on early season pace setters Bradford Bulls.

Morrison added: “If we’d won against Oldham, we’d be top of the table, but we’re only one point off, which is good after four rounds.

“We had these first four games and we wanted to win all four. They are teams that want to be around the same as us, looking at sixth to eighth spot.

“I’m happy with the way we bounced back, but we’re still improving what we’re doing.”

Sunday’s trip to Featherstone is the first of back-to-back away games for Dewsbury, who head to London Broncos on Saturday March 12.

The Rams won at both Featherstone and London last season and Morrison knows a repeat would send a clear message to their Championship rivals.

He added: “In the first half (against Whitehaven) we played some really good football and scored some good tries. Hopefully we can keep the wins coming and keep improving.”
