The Rams were given an extra week’s break following their extended run in last season’s Kingstone Press Championship play-offs but the squad are now geared up for what is sure to be a gruelling few weeks ahead.

Coach Glenn Morrison completed all his new signings before jetting off on a well-earned break but he has already been preparing for the hard graft ahead.

Morrison said: “We’ve been putting plans together for the last fortnight and everything is in place for the start of pre-season.

“The boys have been messaging each other and although they have enjoyed their time off, everyone is champing at the bit to return.”

Ryan Fieldhouse, a close season signing from Halifax, faces an operation on an injury picked up towards the end of last season and he is set to miss the start of the 2015 campaign.

However, Wayne Godwin has recovered fully from the broken arm which curtailed his season and the popular former Super League hooker is also raring to get back in the thick of things.

Morrison had a visit from Dewsbury lad Sam Burgess this week, following his return to England after signing for Bath Rugby Union having produced a man-of-the-match display to help South Sydney Rabbitohs win Australia’s NRL Grand Final for the first time in 43 years last month.

Morrison and Burgess became good friends during their time at Bradford Bulls together and have kept in contact throughout their careers.

Burgess followed the Rams fortunes throughout last season and Morrison presented the dual-code star with a replica shirt of his home town club.
