Rams and Bulldogs players play key roles as Jamaica draw

The Dewsbury Rams and Batley Bulldogs trio representing Jamaica in the Rugby League World Cup qualifying tournament played key roles in Tuesday’s dramatic 18-18 draw against Canada in Florida.

Dewsbury’s Joel Farrell converted Lamont Bryan’s 21st minute try and, after Batley Bulldogs winger Alex Brown scored, the Rams man landed a penalty as Jamaica led 12-0 at half-time.

Farrell’s crossfield kick set up a 56th minute try for Batley winger Wayne Reittie, with the Dewsbury man again on target with the goal as Jamaica threatened to pull off a major upset.

However, fancied Canada fought back, scoring 18 points in the final 17 minutes to snatch a dramatic draw.

Farrell scored a try and kicked a goal on his international debut last Friday but Jamaica suffered a 20-14 defeat to 2013 RL World Cup quarter-finalists USA in Jacksonville.
