Skipper Newton put the host nation onto the scoreboard first with a penalty but the Australians went on to dominate the match at the Tetley’s Stadium, Dewsbury.

Newton put Andy Eastham over for a try and kicked two more goals but the Great Britain team’s World Cup campaign got off to a losing start.
