Sagar tops the list at Pontefract 10K

Spenborough Athletics Club runner Joe Sagar led the field home in last weekend's Pontefract 10k.

Fellow Spenborough runner David Thornton crossed the line in 47:16.

Around 650 people took part in the event on Sunday morning and the total raised is still being counted.

The race started and ended at Pontefract Park, taking in Park Lane and Havertop Lane.

Katy Lee from the hospice said: “The first year of Pontefract 10k was a huge success. The weather was perfect for a 10k run.

“We had more than 650 runners register to take part to help raise funds for the hospice.

“Supporters are still sending sponsorship money in and we are hoping to raise thousands of pounds to help provide care and support to those in our local community.

“We’ve had a fantastic response from runners who took part in the event and are already working on our plans for next year – bring on Pontefract 10k 2019.”
