Sedge have battled through two tough qualifying rounds to reach the first round proper and they will fancy their chances of making further progress.

It is at this stage in the competition that prize money starts to rise sharply, so victory would also help boost the club’s coffers.

They recorded an impressive 3-0 win at North East side Esh Winning in the first qualifying round when a Gibril Bojang brace and one from Billy Grogan saw Sedge to victory.

Warrick Charlton and Matthew Bugg netted in a 2-1 second qualifying round win over Colne to set up Saturday’s clash against Armthorpe.

Ironically the sides met last week when they battled out a 1-1 draw at Armthorpe in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Liversedge had the better of things playing down Armthorpe’s sloping pitch and deservedly took an 18th minute lead.

Cooke fed Brad Riley and he laid the ball back for Cooke to send Matthew Bugg in on goal and the striker produced a lovely finish.

Liversedge were unable to extend their lead and Armthorpe took advantage of the slope after the break, drawing level with a 63rd minute strike from Gary Mundy.

Armthorpe created further chances but it was Liversedge who almost snatched all three points in the final minute when Ben Grech-Brooksbank pulled his shot just the wrong side of a post.

Sedge were on the road again on Tuesday when they battled out another 1-1 draw at Nostell Miners Welfare.

James Riordan moved to a central midfield role to allow Wes Milnes to return at centre half and he created the opening goal after just eight minutes.

Riordan’s lovely cross was headed home by Gibril Bojang but Nostell hit back to level with a 25th minute goal when an attacker did well to hold the ball up and square it for Alex Buckler to slot home.

Both sides created chances but the final ball let Liversedge down and they had to settle for a third away draw of the season, which leaves them 14th in the Premier Division table.

Following Saturday’s FA Vase clash with Armthorpe, Sedge return to league action on Wednesday night with a long trip to Bridlington Town.

The West Riding County Cup second round tie against Selby Town will take place on Tuesday November 5.
