Sedge rue lost chances

Brighouse Town 4

Liversedge 2

LIVERSEDGE were again left to rue several missed chances as they slipped to a derby defeat at Brighouse Town in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division last Saturday.

Sedge deservedly led 2-1 at half-time and had opportunities to extend that advantage either side of the break before they were punished by a late Brighouse flurry.

Brighouse went close after two minutes when ex-Liversedge front man Wayne Crossley headed wide before the visitors responded.

Dave Bordman linked well with Alex Hallam but his shot was blocked.James Hurtley set up Nathan Cartman but his effort rebounded off the foot of a post.

Town’s Danny Facey headed wide as the open game continued and Brighouse took a 26th minute lead when another former Sedge man, Brighouse captain Steve Hollingworth, rose to powerfully head home a corner.

Liversedge hit back soon after to turn the game on its head. Bordman fed Cartman, who cleverly slotted beyond goalkeeper Imeson. Just a minute later Hallam sent Bordman free to rifle home and put Liversedge 2-1 up.

Damien Hopkins then headed over from a good position on the stroke of half-time.

Liversedge had the chance to put the game beyond Town’s reach early in the second half as Cartman had a shot blocked from a glorious position before Hallam hit a post when he should have scored.

Hollingworth had a header cleared off the line at the other end before Bordman again went close for Sedge.

Hallam had a double chance to make it 3-1 when he had a shot blocked before firing the rebound widel. It proved costly as Brighouse drew level after 65 minutes when Danny Hull drilled home after Liversedge failed to clear their lines.

Brighouse snatched all three points as Alex O’Keefe fired into the bottom corner and Naidole was on the end of another good move to slot home a minute from time.
