Smith signs to boost Sedge survival hopes

Sedge enter 2016 lying bottom of the table but just a point from safety and manager Jonathan Rimmington believes Smith’s signings could provide his side impetus to pull clear of danger.

Rimmington said: “After weeks of looking for a striker to play with our young side, the search ends with Dempsey joining the battle for survival .

“Dempsey has joined from Droylsden from the Evo Stik but his playing career as a significant history with Farsley and Bradford Park Avenue amongst his recent clubs.

“Dempsey is a 25 year old with a fantastic pedigree and hopefully in the coming months he can produce the performances that we know he is capable of.

“He is also hungry to help the youngsters at the club and with hours of talking he is looking forward to working with our talented group.

“Over the last two weeks we have signed significant young exciting players Rhys Davies, Marc Lumb and Rhys Jenkinson. Hopefully these youngsters can help with our survival in the Premier Division.”

Liversedge’s derby clash at Thackley was postponed on Monday and the Clayborners will be hoping for improved weather later this week as they bid to play a first game in four weeks.

Sedge are scheduled to play their fifth consecutive away game on Saturday (January 2) when they visit Garforth Town, kick off 3pm.

Sedge have not played a home game since a 4-3 victory over Barton Town on October 31, while the recent poor weather has also meant Rimmington’s men have only played once in December, a 5-1 defeat at Albion Sports four weeks ago.They now face a hectic month with seven games scheduled in January.
