Spen AC’s Ogden has hectic weekend

With many of the runners from Spenborough AC taking part in the Abbey Dash 10K race in Leeds last Sunday, a weakened team turned out for the third West Yorkshire Cross Country League race at Keighley the day before.

On a muddy, hilly course in the grounds of Cliffe Castle, the senior men placed ninth team.

The men were led in by Kevin Ogden in 11th place followed by Martin Hall (63rd), Gerard Skipping (79th), Stephen Hunt (84th), Dave Butler (112th), Grant Cooper (118th) and Mick Dransfield (120th) in a race won by international fell runner Tom Adams from Ilkley.

Natasha Greere (34th) and Sarah Barker (68th) were only Spen runners in the senior women’s race.

Courtney Benson placed 23rd in the Under-17 women’s race, while the Under-15 girls team of Molly Warring (31st), Lydia Hall (45th) and Alice Cooper (46th) placed eigth.

Harry Brackenridge was 16th in the U13 boys race and Olivia Reah placed 40th and Mia Butler was 63rd in the U13 girls. Jack Barraclough placed 53rd in the U11 boys race and Molly Firth placed 28th in U11 girls race.

Joe Saggar continued his good form placing 159th from over9,000 finshers at Sunday’s Abbey Dash in a time of 33 mins 14 secs.

Kevin Ogden recovered well from the previous day’s race placing 257th in a time of 34 mins 54 secs with other leading Spenborough runners Simon Bolland (306th, 35m 43s) and Paul Davis (349th, 36m 06s).
