Spenborough Athletic Club’s senior men finished the fourth and final West Yorkshire Cross Country League meeting of the season in style at Guiseley last Sunday.
Spen finished fourth team on the day and completed the campaign in a very respectable third place overall.
Paul Davis led the Spen runners home by producing his best run in the league this season to finish 18th overall.
Davis was also rewarded with first place in the individual Under-20s men’s competition following his impressive race.
Kevin Ogden (37th) led the rest of the senior men followed by Simon Bolland (42nd), Neil Barker (58th), Martin Hall (62nd) and Martin Peck (63rd).
Other Spen finishers were Gerard Skippin (83rd), Ian Wilson (85th), John Turpin (97th), Ian Ogden (97th), Dave Butler (133rd), Lee Dolman (135th) and Mick Dransfield (141st).
Tom Adams from Ilkley was the overall winner of the senior men’s race.
Becky Rowlands had a good run to finish 20th in the senior women’s race, leading the Spenborough senior women’s team to ninth place on the day and fifth overall.
Becky was followed by Natasha Greere (40th), Emma McGuire (65th), Sarah Barker (78th) and Jackie Carter (90th).
The senior women’s race was won by Alex Bell from Pudsey.
In the younger athletes races, Henry Carter was placed 31st in the Under-17s men’s event.
Courtney Benson was 28th and Molly Waring 34th in the Under-15s girls race.
Nickolas Brackenridge and his brother Harry competed for Spenborough in the Under-15 and Under-13 boys races respectively, recording 40th and 32nd place finishes .
Spen were well represented in the Under-13s girls race by Olivia Reah, who was placed 37th, followed by Mia Butler (65th) and Alicia Rose (66th).
The first race of the day was the Under-11 boys when Spenborough’s Jack Quinn (26th) and Jack Barraclough (47th) competed admirably.
