Sykes fans snap up fight tickets

GARY Sykes’s fans have been snapping up tickets for next Saturday’s British super featherweight title showdown with West Yorkshire rival Carl Johanneson, writes Andrew Hunt.

Huddersfield Sports Centre looks set to be packed to the rafters for the biggest fight Yorkshire has seen in years and champion Sykes is hoping his fans can cheer him to another night of glory.

Thornhill’s 19-year-old Michael Smith – who is set to figure on the undercard – has himself sold more than 50 tickets for the show and has requested more, all of who will be cheering on Sykes in the main event.

The interest surrounding the fight has certainly gripped Dewsbury fight fans and many will be attending their first live show.

It is expected only a handful of tickets will remain by this weekend and anyone interested is advised to contact Mark Waters on 07890 071883 as soon as possible.

Sykes will also hold a public workout at Dicky’s Gym in Batley next Tuesday (March 1), from 6pm, when supporters will have the chance to watch the Dewsbury Moor man go through his final preparations.

The workout, at Mark Hurley’s gym, just off Hick Lane, is open to all and after going through his paces, Sykes will pose for pictures and sign autographs.
