Thornhill held and relinquish top spot

Thornhill were held to a 3-3 draw by bottom side Featherstone Colliery as they relinquished top spot in West Yorkshire League Division One.

Nathan Kemp bagged a hat-trick for the home side but Featherstone belied their lowly league position and grabbed a point thanks to goals from Jamie Deal, Scott Ellam and Matt Murray.

The draw allowed Carlton Athletic to take over at the top on goal difference.

Wyke Wanderers are up to fourth following a 5-3 victory over Altofts, thanks to goals from Ben Bodie (two), Aidan Day, Karl Fawcett and Ian Horrocks.

Jack Allerton put Overthorpe ahead following a great Lewis Ward pass.

Dudley Hill hit the woodwork and were thwarted by goalkeeper Rob Chapman and resolute defending by Matty Smith and Scott Minto.

Pressure eventually told and James Scott headed home the equaliser.

Chapman made a succession of good saves after the break but Overthorpe snatched victory when Reece Patterson combined with Alerton to slot home.

Lower Hopton eased into the Premier Division Cup third round thanks to a 5-0 victory over Kirkburton.

Adams and Stewart bagged a brace apiece for the visitors, who led 2-0 at half-time, while Mulvihill was also on target to send Hopton through to the next round.

Littletown earned a hard-fought 2-1 win at Halifax Irish in the Premier Division thanks to goals from Reece Pollard and Kurt Harris as they moved up to 10th.

Victory saw Gawthorpe climb to fourth in the table, five points adrift of leaders Beechwood Celtic, ahead of Saturday’s West Riding County Trophy trip to Hunslet Club Reserves, while Old Bank are languishing in second-bottom spot.

Thornhill crashed out of the Division Two Cup in the first round, losing 12-0 away to Drighlington Juniors.
