Trojans slip to heavy defeat at Drighlington

Thornhill’s early season injury crisis meant the Trojans had to field several A teamers to fulfil this Pennine Premier Division fixture.

Thornhill’s patched up squad produced a valiant effort and they managed to hold a well-drilled Drighlington outfit to a 14-0 half-time lead.

After leaking three tries in the opening 15 minutes, from Drig’s Danny Sanderson, Sean Hammill and Ben Nabozny, of which Michael Sanderson converted one, the Trojans began to find their feet.

Anthony Broadhead and Liam Morley tried to bring Thornhill into the game, with the latter named MoM.

Stand off Joss Ratcliffe also looked to create opportunities and his kick to the in goal area just bounced beyond winger Adam Allerton.

Drighlington broke early in the second half and Nathan Larvin took the final pass to cross for a try which Michael Sanderson converted. Sam Ratcliffe was sent to the sin bin for dissent and while Thornhill were down to 12 men, the home side scored again.

Drig kicked forward and Hammell completed the move with his second try of the game and Sanderson converted.

Morley and Mindaugas Bendikas linked well but the move broke down and after Anthony Broadhead went off injured, Drighlington scored further tries through Nabozny, Michael Sanderson, Nick Gomersal and Nathan Larvin, all of which were converted by Michael Sanderson.
