UFC stars inspire fight fans on visit

TWO of the biggest stars from the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) visited the KBW combat and fitness gym in Savile Town, Dewsbury.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters Ryan Bader and CB Dollaway gave demonstrations and passed on advice to gym members.

Bader is one of the elite level MMA fighters, having fought the best fighters in the light heavyweight division and is currently ranked among the top 10 fighters in the world.

He has had victories over former UFC world champion Quinton Jackson and fought the world no1 and current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

CB Dollaway recently defeated top ranked fighter Jason Miller and during their time at KBW, the pair gave a seminar, demonstrating wrestling techniques and gave inspirational advice to youngsters on how to train and stay focused in sport.

Since opening its doors, KBW, which is on the second floor, Headfield Mills, Cardwell Terrace, Dewsbury, have also welcomed boxing star Amir Khan to the gym.

They currently offer coaching in MMA and boxing and have recently become affiliated to the ABA.

Great Britain’s Rio 2016 Olympic boxing prospect Qais Ashfaq also trains out of the Savile Town gym.

While in the area, Bader and Dollaway attended a MMA show at the Frontier Club in Batley, which saw local fighters Danny Missin and Jason Furness competing.

Fighters from across the UK and abroad were in attendance along with a large following of supporters, many of who were watching their first live MMA show.

Bader and Dolloway signed autographs and had their photos taken with fans, which added to the occasion.

Missin, from Cleckheaton, was representing Allegiance MMA and Furness, from Mirfield, represented AVT and although both had tough fights, they were well prepared.

Missin was fighting for the UCFC British Flyweight title against Craig Derbyshire form Doncaster.

Missin didn’t disappoint local fight fans as he won the British title after forcing his opponent into a first round submission.

Furness fought Dragan Pesic form Serbia at lightweight in an eagerly anticipated clash which didn’t disappoint the fans.

The bout was fought at a fast pace and Furness forced Pesic to tap out in the first round as he also recorded a notable victory.

In one of the other contests on the Frontier show, local fighter Niko Gjoka earned victory over Lawson Tenant.
