Vanzie progresses to ABA quarter-finals

Vanzie overcame a tough test last weekend when he defeated Great Britain Development Squad member Newall to reach the national stage of the ABA’s in the 81kg class.

Despite meeting one of the pre-tournament favourites, Vanzie got off to a great start, and cut his opponent in the first round.

He continued to produce the more eye catching boxing and clearly won the first round.

Newall has the better of the second and outboxed Vanzie, forcing him back several times and at one point the referee looked as though he was on the verge of stopping the contest.

Vanzie survived and rallied in the third and final round to win on a majority decision and progress to the quarter-finals, where he will meet Pontone.
