Victory sees Moor move four clear in Pennine

Dewsbury Moor 32

Ackworth Jaguars 10

DEWSBURY Moor continued their winning run to move four points clear in the Pennine League Championship.

Ackworth had beaten Keighley the week before but once Moor got into their stride the visitors struggled. The hosts led after eight minutes when a break by Robert Senior, James Delaney sent Steve McNamara over at the corner.

James Eatherley’s conversion attempt hit a post and bounced clear before they had a wake-up call as Ackworth drew level with a try.

Good work by Andy Burland, Andy Robinson and Wayne Wilson saw Phil Simpson send Danny Wardman over for a try. Eatherley converted and he was on target again after Adrian Boardman’s break set up the position for Senior to dummy over and touch down.

Good defence by Ryan Johnson maintained the hosts’ lead while after the break good play featuring Matt Shaw and Ryan Hardcastle saw McNamara hauled down just short. Peter Robinson and Simpson combined to send Shotton over for a try and Eatherley’s 60th goal of the season made it 22-4.

Ackworth hit back with a converted try before Moor responded with drives by Burland, Shaw and Dominic Scanlon. Peter Robinson’s 60-metre charge set up Wilson who forced his way over.

Late on Delaney sent Senior over for his second try which Eatherley converted before Johnson and Jamie Young were held just short.

Moor are four points clear of Halifax Irish who have three games in hand and the top two clash at Irish a week on Saturday (March 24). Moor have a derby at home to Birstall Victoria tomorrow (Saturday) while Moor’s A team host Queensbury B.
