Virr thunders landmark goal

Andy Virr’s first goal in open age football helped set up a 7-2 win for Batelians over Beeston in Yorkshire Old Boys League Senior B Division.

With the sides level at 2-2 and Beeston having missed a penalty, Virr rose superbly to powerfully head a corner into the roof of the net for his first goal.

Sam Newman put Batelians ahead put Beeston fought back with goals either side of half-time before Otway levelled.

Virr’s goal put Batelians 3-2 and further strikes from Sid Newman, on debut, Otway, his second, and Rob Bordman (two) sealed a 7-2 win which leaves them second.

Norristhorpe Reserves earned a 4-1 win over Centralians in Division Five.

17-year-old Conner Secker put Norristhorpe ahead and although Cents levelled 16-year-old Liam Adams made it 2-1.

16-year-old Tom Peacey made it 3-1 before Lewis Collinson curled home a fourth.

n Thornhill beat Ossett Dynamoes 5-2 in the Wakefield League Premier Division, Gawthorpe continued their march towards the Division One title with a 3-1 at Wortley, Battyeford Airedale lost 6-2 at Inns of Court, while Michael Thompson and Gareth Smith netted in Dewsbury Rangers 2-0 Division One League Cup win over Weavers Arms.
