Wardlaw wicket is in vain for Scotland

Cleckheaton bowler Iain Wardlaw picked up a wicket but it wasn’t enough to prevent Scotland bowing out of the ICC Cricket World Cup following defeat to Bangladesh in New Zealand on Wednesday night.

Wardlaw struck Bangladesh batsman Mahmudullah on the toe with an 80mph delivery and the ball cannoned into the stumps in the 24th over of the innings.

However, Bangladesh successfully chased down the impressive Scotland total of 319-8 with 11 balls to spare, as Wardlaw ended with 1-75 from 9.1 overs.

Scotland now move to Tazmania, where they will meet Sri Lanka and co-hosts Australia in their final two pool matches but they can no longer qualify for the knock-out stages.
