The former Lancashire and Durham man admits winning the title has been the pinnacle of his playing career, saying: “I played in three first class semi-finals playing with Lancashire but never managed to reach a Lord’s final and this is the first thing I’ve really felt very proud of winning.

Cleckheaton is a fantastic club, with the rugby, bowls and cricket sections all getting along and Saturday was nice as all the rugby lads came back from their game and were congratulating us.

“Dave Worrall has been the guy who has held everything together but we have a committee who work tirelessly to raise money.

“We have tried to bring a team who want to play together and 11 lads who all have the same philosophy.

“They are very talented cricketers but they also bring the right attitude and have the desire to win.”

Wood also admitted he was pleased Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale was at Woodlands to witness his home club win their first championship.

The focus now turns to defending their crown and Wood is relishing the prospect of Cleckheaton having a crack at next season’s Yorkshire Champions Trophy.
