Wyke’s impressive form sees them joint top

WYKE are joint top of Pennine League Division Two after they sealed a fourth win in five matches, defeating Troydale Trojans 28-10 last Saturday.

Troydale started strongly and were 10 points up in the opening 20 minutes against a Wyke side decimated by injuries.

Wyke came back fighting and after sustained pressure Simon Owen stormed over for a try, which Michael Wormald converted.

Good drives by Ben Kelly and Sean Kelly put Wyke back on attack and stand-in scrum-half Ian Wormald produced a long pass to send Duane Platt over for a deserved converted try.

Joe Bartle extended Wyke’s lead when he barged over, before Wormald sold a lovely dummy and touched down.

Platt produced a fine pass and John Rayner raced 70 yards to score between the posts, with Wormald adding his fourth goal.

MoM accolades went to Simon Owen, player-coach Wormald and young full-back Paul Bapty.

Wyke A secured a second win in as many Division Seven outings, overcoming Farnley Falcons A 46-4.

Craig Hillam, Kieran Helliwell and Gary Smith scored tries, all of which were converted by Hillam, before Adam France drew the full-back and sent Mick Silver over on his debut to make it 22-0 at half-time.

MoM Matty Harrison and Helliwell crossed early in the second half before Cliff Bacon added a quickfire brace near the end.

Hillam landed all four second half goals to seal the victory.
