Young archers selected for Great Britain academy

The Scholes-based archers are among just a dozen archers selected from the north of England, to attend the prestigious East Yorkshire academy.

They will attend monthly weekend training camps where they will be coached by the top national coaches including former Olympian Charlotte Burgess, talent coach Kath Fitzpatrick and top Korean coach Songi Woo, who inspired female Mexican archers Aida Roman and Mariana Avitia to silver and bronze medals at the 2012 London Olympics.

The talented duo are following a rigorous training regime and shoot a minimum of 1000 arrows a week to hone their technique.

Archery GB are running three performance academies, the other two at Lilleshall and Hartpury, Gloucestershire, and only 60 junior archers have been hand-picked to attend them.

Jessie and Lewis’ father Simon said: “We are extremely proud of both of them.

“They have worked hard over the last 18 months to earn their places and their ultimate goal is to represent their country at the highest level in the Olympics.”

Both archers have represented their county this year, shooting in Cumbria in the regional Northern Counties competition.

Jessie finished in first place for her age and distance and Lewis picked up second place for his appropriate age and distance.

Jessie is also the 2013 Yorkshire Indoor and Outdoor junior girl recurve champion.
